Grumpy Old Man

Guided tour

Well yesterday was a surprise - it rained all day long. We haven't seen that for a while - but at least I won't need to go out and water this evening!

Carried on with writing up my latest London walk. What's really fun about it is that it's almost like doing it all over again, with the added bonus of knowing a lot more about the places I pass than I did on the day!

This afternoon I had a visit from the doctor. No, not for medical reasons but for a horticultural one! Last week I arranged an on-the-day appointment and met a doctor I hadn't seen before. After dealing with my sore shoulder, for some reason we got on to the subject of fossil jet which can be picked up on the beaches in Yorkshire - I told her that this jet comes from the fossilised remains of monkey puzzle trees. She then said that she'd planted a MP tree in her Oban garden, but that it was very pot-bound and had died. This was my opportunity to offer her one of my seedlings!

As a result of this non-medical discussion she came round this afternoon to collect it and we spent an hour poking through my plants - she went off with another of my spare succulents! I must make it clear that she was off-duty! She did ask how my shoulder was and I told her that she was here as a gardener and not as a doctor!

I begged a lift down to the town to buy a paper and while walking back along Ardconnel Terrace I spotted a group of people standing in the yard of the distillery below - I suppose that they were having a guided tour. Probably just after the free samples!

Coming along the deck to the front door I noticed the very first runner bean of the season! It must be all of a centimetre long and is my extra today! I look forward to tasting it when it's a little bigger!
