Diary of an Edinburgher

Baltic Cruise Day Three

Another day, another drama.

Same old clothes though… yesterday the reception staff said they thought the cases would arrive in Gdansk… Wrong!

Never mind, we have been in Gdansk today. And what a beautiful place it is! We had a walking tour, and the leader was very interesting about the history of this area. We saw the ruins of the very battlements where the first shots of WW11 were fired at from the sea.

The city is SO picturesque, having been restored to the original design after being razed to the ground in the war by the Germans. Or was it the Russians…

The expected rain came just at the end of the tour, so instead of exploring more, we went to a nice cafe and had a beer. I wasn’t sure if I could pay with Apple Pay on my phone, so I checked first with the waitress. A bit of misunderstanding led to her replying,
‘Yes, we have apple pie. Would you like it with custard!’ Of course, I would! Most amusing. And I may have kept the joke going a wee bit long with the waitress, even when I went to pay.

We shared an umbrella walking back to the bus, but my (only) jacket got a bit wet, so I took it off during lunch, and I felt quite cold in the air con. I NEED a sweatshirt. Had to go back to our room and put my dressing gown on. But I can’t wear that to dinner!

Latest news is ONE of the cases is in Riga!!! Why?? After to-ing and fro-ing, it will be delivered to Klaepeda Airport tomorrow, our next port.

Off for dinner. We’ll see what excitement tomorrow brings.
