Clock is ticking
Up at ridiculous o'clock to head to London for my final outcome consultation.
Got to the office and got some of my props ready for the big meeting.
It took place in the shared workspace next door, the clown knew what was coming and didn't want to be embarrassed.
He got the formalities done and said that I was redundant and then it was my turn.
I said I was struggling to understand why you've decided to destroy a high performing team like mine. I asked him if he knew the difference between a high performing team and a poorly performing team. So I got out our legacy presentation which records all of our successes and shoved that it in his face and told him that's a high performing team. I then got out the investigation I did last year on our poorly performing finance team. No proper financial controls, no leadership, but yet we throw resources at them like they are going out of fashion. Ironically I was introduced to another new starter in their team this morning. You couldn't make it up.
I then put a clock on the table and asked him do you know what that signifies. He was looking totally lost and I said that's the clock that you have just set in motion and you have no idea when the alarm is going to go off, it could be this month, next month, next year but at some time that alarm will go off and it will signify that my young padawan or my head of h&s or another member of the team has left to go elsewhere.
I said you have no idea of the damage you've done, but you're going to have to listen to the damage. So, I got the card that two of my team had sent me and a few other comments that I've had from the team and outside and got our people director to read them out to him. He had no idea that was coming and he was looking decidedly sheepish as he heard the words from the team.
They want me to do a handover. There's no way I'm going to leave my team in the lurch, so I will stay on for the next three weeks now. He then had the cheek to say that he would still really appreciate my input into how the team should be structured now that I am not there. I said you must be joking, why should I dig you out of the hole you've created for yourself. Clueless!
Got back into the office and my young padawan and I went for a walk and a cuppa.
Got back into the office, did a few things and then said that I'm done for the day, so we wandered off to Kensington and had a meal in an Italian restaurant. Her head is down now, she will be a quiet quitter now until she leaves. I've told her that she needs to find a new job with a business that really appreciates her and her work. She will find somewhere, she is far too good not for a business to pick her up.
We stopped at a coffee shop to hear the clown announce to the SLT that I will be leaving. Our legal counsel ripped into him and was asking all sorts of questions, which of course the clown had no answers for because he's put no thought into it.
We then headed home. I will announce to the team tomorrow and then back to London on Thursday.
Now watching the Lionesses. They are 1-0 down, I hope they can turn this around.
Today I am thankful for:
1. The support of my young padawan
