The last brick pile, going...

Yup, as of tonight I have no more bricks - other than those built into my house. (Plus the solitary beautiful brick which should have been built into my house but was lost at the time. Later found, but too late - another story.)

I created this pile, weighing a bit over a ton, in front of the house today, out of three in the back garden, and before I got to take a picture, it was already being dismantled this evening by J, who'd replied to my ad offering my 472 leftover bricks.

He came to look yesterday and wanted them all. We discussed logistics (weight of bricks in his small car = masses of journeys), and I suddenly remembered that the Oxford CoWheels van lives at the end of my street. J's not a member so I said I'd drive, and I booked it for 6-8pm this evening, knowing that this pile, plus the bricks already in front of my house, would mean two van-trips.

I'd asked for cash on collection but when we met I knew I could trust him so said he could do a bank transfer instead. Which he did before turning up this evening with his 11-year old.

They did most of the loading, I drove the van to their home and helped unload, showing them how to make a stable brick pile (I really am an expert!), then drove us all back to mine for the reload. At 7.25 we realised we were running out of time, and I couldn't extend my hire as someone else had booked the van.

We abandoned the 40ish remaining bricks, for J to collect in his car later, and headed off back to his, fraying the edges of Oxford's 20mph speed limit. This time we offloaded rapidly onto the pavement, leaving his wife and urgently-texted neighbours to continue building the impressive stable brick pile, and managed to get back to mine only 90 seconds late. J's own car was parked where he works, very close by, so he and 11-year-old were able to fetch it and load up all the remaining bricks.

All. Every last one (except the beautiful brick).

I have no more bricks to move. Expect an identity crisis in due course.
