Between fen and mountains

Pic de la Pena

Each year, on or soon after her birthday, Mrs TT climbs the peak opposite our house to prove she can still do it. She says she models herself on our neighbour Gerd who is still climbing it at 80. I can see we will have to do it for at least another five years! Mind you Gerd did walk the Pyrenean chain from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean when in her 60s. Pena is a stiff climb to a height of 1062 metres. We then walked the ridge along to the.Tour de Goa, a napoleonic watchtower, which involves a lot more up and down. There were just two of us walking today as the group walk had been cancelled due to the risk of storms. Fortunately, we were back an hour before the storms arrived. In all we walked nearly 10 kilometres with 700 metres of ascent.
