Lorraine meets the Coastguard

The day started with a Selkie swim when we were joined by a Porty BlueTit up on holiday in the land of her ancestors.  Someone took a photo of us entitled Tits-on-Tour.The sea was calm and clear, the air was warm and best of all there were no jelly fish to be seen. We may have noticed a rat and a flying fish but that’s another story!

With the start of Shopping Week in Stromness, the town was awash with pipers and Gala Queens and attendants. The Royal Party made their entrance on the RNLI Life boat and the week was officially opened with a speech from our very own Selkie,WendyFlett and then there was the   crowning of the Gala Queen.

The Friend of a friend of a friend and I made our escape to become ladies who lunch at the Barriers Café alongside the jewellery of Celina Rupp. This is the third time this holiday I have graced the café but it never disappoints.

I had a quick stravaig down the Street when I got home but the crowds and hyper children reminded me so much of the razzmatazz I am going home to with the Festival Fringe on my doorstep that I did a sweep of the stalls and then scurried back to the flat to recoup before my new friend of a friend of a friend and her husband come to hang over the garden wall with me and watch the homemade raft race go past.
And all the time the pessimists got it wrong-it doesn’t always rain on shopping week, sometimes it’s warm and summery!
