Baltic Cruise Day Four - Klaipeda
STOP PRESS: Our luggage has arrived!
We’ve arrived in Klaipeda, a port in Lithuania. The capital, Vilnius, is just too far inland for a visit. Klaipeda is quite a small place, but has an amazing dramatic history, of course, as does the rest of this region.
But there’s not actually terribly much to see in the town. It’s very tidy, laid out in grids, but with a some very dodgy cobbled streets.
And what do we do when there’s not a lot to see on a tour? We have a beer tasting, of course! But we had smaller glasses this time, one at a time. And we had a traditional snack - deep fried garlicky bread, with grated cheese. Surprisingly nice!
Back to the ship for lunch (sushi for me, teriyaki prawns for JR) and we’ve taken to choosing a couple of cakes to take back to have on our deck with our nice suite coffee.
And so later we wafted around in our newly arrived clothes (though JR had been able to change, having brought a wee wheelie case). We were greeted with waves and cheers from the reception staff, whom we have been hassling for days. Also, many people during the evening came up and said, ‘I see your luggage has arrived!’ We must have told of the drama to just about everyone on board…
Caviar tonight for entree. Not on the menu, but we know you can ask for anything. Also the fillet steak. Can’t go by that.
Riga tomorrow!
PS Some of you will recognise my top from last year’s cruise. Or even the cruise before that…
