Damp Inside
After a long lie and a late breakfast we were about to head out to explore the neighbourhood when the heavens opened. And how! Instead we explored our hotel and watched the rain … it’s a great place and a definite haven from the city hubbub. After a while we did head out into a steam bath! Wandered around a few blocks getting our bearings before having to dive into a tea house for iced tea. There’s a big tea house culture here but finding iced tea isn’t so easy as the Chinese prefer hot drinks to cool them down.
Weishin is he largest monastery in Chengu and not far from our hotel so we made that our sole tourist stop of the day. Maybe we’ve toured too many temples lately but sadly Weishin failed to impress. They did have a pretty good bonsai garden though.
Later on we sat outside and ate at a wee noodle place sandwiched between a Dairy Queen and a Starbucks. Sad really but our noodle soups were excellent (and cost less than two Starbucks coffees - go figure). The evening was almost spoiled by a crap touristy music bar, the only bar I’ve ever visited where you’re not allowed to sit at the bar, but was saved by the tea house we’d visited earlier which also served ice-cold beer and stayed open just for us!
