Sechuan
Chengdu is famous for pandas and food. Well we won’t be panda viewing so here’s some local Sechuan food - braised pork coated in a ‘Special Spice Mix’. One chilli on the menu, thank heavens I didn’t go for two. S’s Pumpkin and Meat dish also had a single chilli rating but by comparison was positively mild! Both were fabulous though and were accompanied by a never ending supply of cherry tea (and a local beer). We were in Chunxi, Chengdu’s upmarket shopping district and home to dozens of good restaurants. We took ages to choose one so I was really chuffed that we got it right!
Earlier we took the Metro to the People’s Park and wandered around what felt like an outdoor tropical glasshouse, complete with sprinklers popping on in the form of the odd downpour.
That was our only touristy stop of the day until heading back downtown in the evening. We’re taking it easy.
The Extras are from Chunxi as we headed back and from our balcony after we got back.
