Wallace and Gromit Rule OK
All over Stromness, families have been busy with their creative talents to produce garden sculptures for Shopping Week, the town’s gala. We have Mermaids , Orcas, Witches and cartoon characters appearing round every corner.
I was whisked by Selkie Fi to have lunch at Sheila Fleet’s gallery in Tankerness where the great and the good can always be found. Today it was CMC and her college friends leaving IainatCreel to his own devices. I hope he was left a list.
The lunch was superb - seafood fish cakes with salad, leaving no room for any ‘afters’. We had a drive around Deerness, with interesting chat. It didn’t matter that it was rather misty, the scenery is so different from the west Mainland and much quieter.
After I got home, I had a quick walk with my adopted Orkney daughter WendyS round the paths in Happy Valley, Stenness. There are little wooden doors attached low down on tree trunks for children and childish adults to open and find the picture of a woodland animal behind. We found only two but we think there should have been more.
SelkieLibby is about to arrive any moment with her granny squares for an evening of high jinks and crochet. My Edinburgh life is looming and will feel incredibly dull after this holiday.
