Spreewald - Gherkin City Lübbenau

We slept longer than expected.

We left later than planned.

At 11 am - which was the time we had planned to arrive by.

But all was good.

We got to Friedrich Strasse and one train was delayed - so we planned to get the next one which was earlier than the delayed one and had a coffee close to the station.

Our train story continues - when the train arrived it was over crowded and we ended up standing with a lot of other people.

It was not very nice and at each station more people wanted to board.

We finally got a seat for the last 2 stops or so.

The weather was beautiful and rather hot.

We walked into Lübbenau and followed the first sign to a harbour place and booked a Kahn journey (their kind of boats which are moved with poles - a bit like in Venice)
for 2 pm.

It was such a lovely trip through the waterways in this gorgeous forest.

We stopped at the old village Lehde - but it was a constraint stay - no way out of the cafe with beer garden.

So we had a beer (Neil) and a Waldmeister limo with Lemon ice cream and a plum cake (me) before we got back on the barge to return to the starting point.

We then wandered around the little town.

I tried some oof the gherkins, bought some and we ended next to the water on the grass for a deserved rest.
I even had a wee nap.

Food was the next assignment and we decided to go o one of the touristy places (all were touristy places) and Neil had a Venison Goulash and I had a Cucumber Goulash. Both quite rustic local meals - and they were delicious.

We then walked back to the Station and took the train home.
Thanks god we were later than the crowd and the train was quiet.

We got off at Mehringdamm and fancied a Radler on a bench before heading into bed - shattered from all this fresh air.

Sleeping like a brick.

More pics in the extras.
