Headed Home

A gorgeous morning on the Deschutes River in Maupin, Oregon. Dick left early to fish and I had a leisurely few hours, some of it spent swinging on a bench next to the river (see extra). The temperature was perfect and there was a lovely breeze.

We left the hotel around 11 and headed into Hood River - about an hour’s drive. We found a beautiful riverside restaurant (the Columbia River now) and enjoyed a pleasant lunch and gorgeous view. We poked around Hood River for a while and then went to visit Herman the Sturgeon at the Bonneville Fish Hatchery https://myodfw.com/bonneville-hatchery-visitors-guide. Scroll down the website if you’re interested - you can read about Herman, who is 80 years old, 10’ long and weighs 500 lbs. I assume there’s a bit of guess work involved here since Herman resides in a beautiful outdoor pool and can be observed through a window that is underwater. Sturgeons are really pretty cool and very ancient fish if you want to read more about them. Sadly I don’t have a good shot of Herman (and he is HUGE!), but we saw some gorgeous rainbow trout in an observation pond.

Home late afternoon, tired but very happy! And the kitties were delighted to see me :-)
