All Together Now...
'Breaching' is when a whale propels its body out of the water and into the air, landing back in the water with an impressive splash. Whales 'breach' for many reasons including; social interaction, parasite removal, play and exercise, mating displays and feeding. Beluga whales, however, very seldom 'breach'. When they surface to breathe, they execute what looks like a slow roll. In this photo four Belugas appear to have timed their surfacing perfectly, like a choreographed dance move. m
