On This Day In History
1931: Grasshoppers devestate Midwestern crops

Quote Of The Day
"How narrow is the vision that exalts the busyness of the ant above the singing of the grasshopper."
(Khalil Gibran)

This morning I went to the Ashiya City Museum of Art and History to see an exhibition of Gutai art. This is appropriate because the Gutai movement began in Ashiya in 1954 under the leadership of Yoshihara Jiro. On the way to the museum, I passed a park where Gutai artists gave one of their first presentations; a selection of artwork that children could climb and play on.

I enjoyed the exhibition, especially the objet d'art, like the coloured liquid in clear plastic seen in the main photograph and the extra. The abstract paintings are not so much to my taste, but even some of those I rather liked, especially this one by Motonaga Sadamasa (first thumbnail.)

Coincidently, two years to tomorrow I visited the Ashiya City Museum of Art and History for an exhibition of spooky ukiyo-e by Honen Tsukioka. Here's a link to that entry. Just like then, it is another hot day (34 degrees) so something spooky is in order this afternoon to give me the chills: Paranormal Nightmare (if they upload something today) and Caspersight reacting to Slapped Ham.

Give me chicken skin, Callen! (Thanks, Cal; the demon in the baby crib is pure nightmare fuel!)
