Had a very bad night’s sleep- was wide awake until after 2am. Very unusual for me.
Drove to Calke Abbey - NT property in south Derbyshire. Interesting place- belonged to an eccentric family ( the Harpur- Crewes) who couldn’t afford to maintain the property and so as rooms became uninhabitable they locked the door and just used another one. The last inhabitant ended up living in just three rooms. The NT took it over in the 1980s and made it structurally sound and renovated some rooms but left others as they found them, once they had stopped any further decay. A couple of the rooms were very grand. I really liked this bathroom though- maybe an idea for D for the shower room she’s hoping for? We couldn’t work out how the water drained away though!
The walled and kitchen gardens were surprisingly well kept so we spent a while there, though the sun was out and it was very hot by then .
Got home about 4.30 - tidied up and did some admin and had an early night.
