Baltic Cruise - Helsinki
We’ve had a super day in Helsinki. Well, mainly in a wee cute nearby town of Porvoo, seeing quite a bit of the Finnish countryside on the way - forests.
Our guide was the best yet. An English woman, who has lived in Finland for 33 years. She talked the whole (one hour) journey, and whole way back. Told us everything about life here. She told us about the three S’s important to Finns - SPORTS, SUMMER HOUSES and of course, SAUNAS. We passed by the Big Wheel at the waterfront, and it has a couple of wooden cabins instead of the normal ones, and YES! - they are actual saunas!!! In the Big Wheel!!!
The little town we visited was very cute, with brightly painted wooden houses, cobbled streets, and lots of touristy shops. Also a neat old cafe, where we had coffees and a famous Finnish cake.
We had our last caviar and steak at our favourite restaurant, with our favourite waitperson. Then we met up with our English pals, and our Aussie pals. Arrangements were made to meet up with the Aussies in Edinburgh.
Our homecoming won’t be in the local papers, as I see that Donald Trump’s arrival in Scotland is the main news.
