Another demonstration about Palestine
This medieval looking wall and gallery beside the cathedral is a good setting for listening to speakers. The well-attended event was concerned not only with spreading information about what is happening in Gaza (where no foreign journalists are allowed, and Palestinians reporters and eye-witnesses are frequently killed.) But also to show concern at the cutting back of the right to protest, including the absurd arrest (under terrorism laws) of elderly campaigners sitting down and holding cardboard placards.
The man here, Leigh Evans is a Welsh nurse who has been working in hospitals in Gaza . He was there until May. He still has contacts there who send him reports of what is happening and what they are seeing. I won’t write what he said as it is too distressing to put here.
One thing I have learned is that Instagram, which I had dismissed as being for pouty women with botox, is actually an important source of information so I’m going to have a go at setting it up….. It was nice to bump into some neighbours, a friend, some colleagues from Fareshare, and a blipper (the one and only RobBris50) at the event. As one of the speakers said, nearly all ordinary people in this country are concerned about Palestine now.
After I got home, Portia’s previous owners - I think of them as now being concerned aunties:) - came round to see her. And me, too I suppose… She ate nearly all her food yesterday, and had her medicine. She’s clearly getting back her appetite, what a relief.
