Agyemaaaaang!!

Today's shot is  massive cheat as it's just an image taken from the telly after watching England's nerve shredding semi-final against Italy in the Euro's. I literally had no energy left and my voice had gone after enduring another bewildering, exciting, anger inducing, perplexing, brave, bamboozling (I'm not even sure that gets anywhere near encapsulating all the emotions they are putting their supporters through!) and, at the very, very end, somehow victorious performance from this team.
In a way this has been true of Sarina Wiegman's Lionesses throughout this tournament, apart from a superb performance against the Netherlands and a straightforward win over a brave but limited Wales. As a column in the Times succinctly put it "they've needed to find themselves up against something to find themselves at all".  It seems as if they've needed reality to come crashing into them before they start to play at all - or as another columnist expressed rather more bluntly "this side only have a plan when they get punched in the face".
I'm not even entirely sure how they managed to survive the quarter final against Sweden, coming from two goals behind and winning a penalty shoot out that they really should have lost. This game if anything was even worst for my equilibrium as they 'waited' until the 96th minute to equalise through the delightfully unfazed substitute Michelle Agyemang (or Agyemaaaaang!! - as the commentator exhorted as the ball hit the back of the net) who was given just enough time to rescue England more than partly due to time wasting tactics by the Italians as they tried desperately to cling on to victory, with the coup de grace being delivered by her fellow supersub Chloe Kelly on the rebound from her missed penalty in the last seconds of extra time. Breathless stuff!
