Not the Tour de France.

Today is the Leeds Ironman event.. a sort of super Triathlon. Competitors Swim 2.4 miles in Roundhay Park lake, then cycle 112 miles around north Leeds, followed by a full marathon run around Roundhay and Gledhow.

The cycle course came close to our village - about 1.5 miles away - so I walked up there this morning to see probably a couple of hundred nutters go through! At this point they are just over 10 miles into the cycle ride…and the leader was already 20 miles ahead.

There was a small group of spectators (most seem to have arrived on bikes as the road was closed to traffic). There was the inevitable cowbell ringing and lots as whooping as friends/family/team members cycled past.

The first pro competitor finished in 8 hours 10 minutes. The first non-pro man has just finished at 3:30 with a time of 9 hours 22 minutes. The leading lady is predicted to finish at approx 5:10 which will make her time just under 11 hours!!
