Shiny Things

I thought I ought to do some work on the original guitar project - the one that got totally forgotten about when I was sidetracked by building the black guitar.
It would have been easy just to give everything a good clean, put it all back together and then get rid of it for about what I paid for it, but I’ve decided to go ahead with my plan to subtly upgrade everything, in order to turn a very cheap guitar into something a bit more upmarket.
To that end, I’ve ordered some locking tuners (quite pricey), some roller string trees (surprisingly cheap) and spent the afternoon polishing frets, sanding down the back of the neck and applying lemon oil to the fretboard (no cost at all, just elbow grease!)
The sanding had the dual purpose of cleaning off years of grime and turning a gloss finish into my preferred satin feel. Got to admit it looks pretty good now, though the fretboard will be less shiny than in the photo once the lemon oil fully soaks in.
I would have done a bit to the body as well today, but the necessity to repair a faulty microwave door took precedence. The outer glass panel was in danger of falling off (again!) so I needed to take the door off, clean off all the old glue and restick the glass. I won’t know if this repair has worked until tomorrow as I have to let the glue fully set overnight.
I sincerely hope it does work, because having to replace the microwave will seriously compromise plans for buying upgraded pickups for the guitar project…
