Larig Ghru - Day 1

I have been thinking on walking the Larig Ghru for a while but had no real plans for it until my friend Karen mentioned that it was very high on her bucket list, so I suggested we set a weekend for it, and do it in two days with an overnight camp at Corrour Bothy. Gill was free and she came too. Karen had never wild camped in the hills before and I don't think Gill had ever camped at all, so it was an adventure!
The weather was better than forecast with some showers and occasional sunshine - we could see most of the tops and the views were really good. We started in Colymbridge, through part of the beautiful Rothiemurchus Forest, full of Caledonian Scots pines, then the walk became quite rocky and there with some boulder fields to cross, as we climbed up to the highest part of the pass (835m), then down to Corrour Bothy. By then it was getting very midgy and showers were more and more frequent so I was glad to get there! We pitched out tent while it was not raining - unfortunately the midges were out in force and we had to use our midge-nets - then took refuge in the bothy where we cooked and ate our evening meal, chatting to other campers, until we retreated to our tent for an early night. By then, it was raining properly and I had to dry Django properly in the porch before letting him in but still ended up with damp dog in my tiny tent. It rained and blew a hoolie in the night, so I was glad that my wee tent is very resistant, but poor Django didn't enjoy the night, he was shivering a bit so I wrapped him in everything I had, but I am not sure whether he was cold or a bit frightened. Still, we both managed to sleep.
