Jersey Tiger Moth - Euplagia quadripunctaria

Coffee morning in a neighbouring village and the old crowd turned up, bought some runner beans and a few tomatoes.

This Tiger Moth was resting on my back door.  The species is now spreading along the south coast and has been spotted in London: before that its territory was the Channel Islands and one or two counties in the south here.  The underwings which are only noticeable when it flies are bright red or orange with black spots.
