Storm and Damage

As so often after a long period of hot weather there has been a day of storms here. At 7 o'clock this morning, as forecast, the skies opened and the rain came pouring down. The empty water butts filled in minutes. After a while the rain stopped, and through the rest of the day we had dry periods, drizzly periods, and torrential periods.
I drove to the nearest shop and on the way back I noticed this field, in something of a sad state. Yesterday in the sun it was a beautiful sight with the crop slowly maturing in the sun. Today it's rather battered and I really wonder how the harvest will go now.
Our garden has survived reasonably well. Some damage has occurred but mostly it's okay.
Jan baked bread and biscuits for our upcoming trip, I did a little garden work, and worked to persuade some wasps to move along - I only got lightly stung once!
In the end the storm was a lot lighter than it could have been. The 100mm of rain turned out to be maybe a fifth of that.
All-in-all a reasonable day - we shall see what tomorrow brings!
