A view of the Silvretta Glacier

We woke up to sunshine today, it was very welcome after the mornings of low cloud. Gavin and I went for a short run with Xena, at this altitude it feels like I am running through treacle and I find it very tough - still it was good to be out in the sunshine early in the morning, running next to the river.

After breakfast we made a packed lunch and went for a long cycle up the Monbiel valley to Alp Sardasca. The return journey was 25km which is not that long but it was very steep - the village is at 1179 m and Alp Sardasca is at 1646 m. There is a particularly steep section of about 1 km where you ascend nearly 300 m which is tough. Thankfully we have e-bikes but 20 years ago when we first did this it was extremely challenging to do this cycle route on regular bikes. You still get enough exercise from an e-bike, with just a bit of assistance when needed on these steep tracks. Coming back is very quick as it is downhill all the way but as the wind was blowing up the valley we were freezing cold, by the time we got back to the village we felt frozen and had to go for a hot coffee to thaw out!

With the rain and cooler weather we have experienced over the past few days there has been some fresh snow on the mountain peaks, and you can see that its not just the glacier that is covered in snow but also the mountains to the left of it.

Later this afternoon I was busy preparing the minutes from our committee meeting last night, but I managed to finish them and get the first draft off to our chairman.

Tonight we went to another event in the music festival week. It was a screening of the film Chicago which was accompanied by live music from the 50 piece City Light Orchestra, conducted by the London born Kevin Griffiths. It was brilliant! The movie was first released in 2002 and it was fun seeing a much younger Renee Zellwegger, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Richard Gere in the starring roles. The orchestra were superb, their timing to the movie was perfect.

The village is getting busier now, the music festival has attracted more people and on Friday it is Swiss National Day which is a public holiday.
