WHICKHAM COTTAGE MEDICAL CENTRE
Another medical appointment today - this time I had to go to the Medical Centre in the village for a blood test.... it was the one I need to have 2 weeks before my osteoporosis injection. I also had an appointment for a blood test booked in for 4th August ( a re- test as a previous blood test showed up something to do with kidney function ). I asked the nurse if she could do both tests today to save me coming back next Monday - and also to free up that slot for another patient. She was happy to do both today.
Took my blip shot when I came out of the Centre. This building was built in 1713 as a Rectory. In 1922 its use was changed and it became a Cottage Hospital. I remember going there as a child. Later it was a private school and then a day nursery. After the day nursery moved to different premises a large modern extension was added and in 2002 it opened up again as Whickham Cottage Medical Centre. The old door you can see in my blip shot is the staff entrance so patients don't normally go down to this side of the building. Patients enter through the modern part on the left. Some of the consulting rooms are in the old building. The arms of Lord Crewe, Bishop of Durham, are visible over the old entrance door... see my Extra for a close up. Thanks to BobsBlips for hosting the Wide Wednesday Challenge - the theme today is ' Old '.
I did some shopping while I was in the village and filled up my shopping trolley. Before heading home I sat down on a bench for a rest. My phone " pinged " to let me know that there was a parcel waiting for me in Tesco so I headed back there to collect it. It was a large one and it wouldn't fit in my trolley. Luckily I had a bin bag with me ( I keep one in my trolley in case I get a large parcel ). So I had to get home with a full trolley and a heavy bin bag. I was glad to get indoors and put my feet up.
Weather was lovely again --- even warmer and sunnier than yesterday.
My leg has been much better today Just a bit uncomfortable because of the bandages.
Newcastle United had another pre-season friendly today in South Korea. They were playing Team K - League. Newcastle lost their two previous friendlies so I was hoping for a win today. On my way home from the village I had spotted a dead magpie on the ground near the cricket club and wondered if this was a bad omen. I was proved right as Newcastle lost again. The score was K League 1 Newcastle 0. You would think at least one of the Newcastle team could have managed to get the ball in the net. Pre- season has been very disappointing for a Newcastle fan... and we haven't made any real signings either to strengthen the team for next season.
