I know times are hard….
….but the last cafe in England??
Earlier, we’d been eyeing the Met Office forecast (I don’t use BBC Weather since they ditched the Met Office, after 94years, for MeteoGroup). Big splurges of rain were heading our way and I hate packing-up wet canvas. So, we dropped the tent a day early and headed off to Belingham for a scone with jam and cream in an old railway carriage. Most pleasant.
Then to Rochester on the A68 (Dere Street) to view the remains of the Roman marching fort of Bremenium. There’s not much to see now, but it was once one of the most heavily fortified forts in this area of the UK on account of the less than hospitable locals.
We stopped at Carter Bar (the border between England and Scotland) to eat our cheese and coleslaw pieces (sandwiches) and admire the splendid view of the shires of Selkirk, Roxburgh and Berwick.
Home now and preparing for London on Saturday.
