Culture day
Today we got up and spent the first part of the day, breakfast-lunch time, by the pool. We then came up to the room to get organised and headed into Valletta. We wanted to visit the Cathedral while we were here. It's an extraordinary building, a statement to the wealth of the Knights of St John I've never seen so much gilding before. Its most famous works are by Caravaggio, the Beheading of John the Baptist - to whom the Cathedral is dedicated and St Jerome at work. (He translated the Bible from Greek into Latin).
It was a marvelous place with striking works of art, but the opulence was too much for me and it rather lost the sense of its purpose as a place of worship I felt.
My collage has, the Caravaggio (for Blethers); a restorer at work on the high altar; a beautiful marble sculpture of the baptism of Jesus by John in the Jordan and, completely out of context, an Italian sparrow and her youngster, just as noisy as their UK equivalents.
I'm very pleased with the zoom on my new phone - if only it was working as a means of communication as intended. I'm going to be spending some hours in the Vodafone shop on my return, when I can find the time.
The Extra today has my dress with the 7m long hem as requested.
A shot of the nave of the cathedral, the floor is made of individual marble memorial stones to the Knights buried there.
A picture of the even posher 5* hotel up the road from us, I popped in to use the facilities - as one does- and was delighted to make use of the Aqua de Parma toiletries in the ladies. The dress was on display in the central lounge.
The final shot is of Aaron's Restaurant, which was recommended to us many years ago by a chef friend who rated Aaron very highly. It has several Michelin plaques to its name and the food was just delicious. Much better than the other restaurant which we visited the other night
