Back in time?
Playing fields in Pukekawa were flooded after the very heavy rainfall earlier in the week.On Tuesday the trains had been halted by the rain. This was the aftermath of that amount of rain in only a few hours.
In the early days of establishment of Auckland as a colonial settlement these fields were a swamp which had developed ("over many thousands of years") as water gathered "in the highly fractured basalt of the former lava lake".
