LMP2
It's Motul Sportscar Grand Prix featuring IMSA at Road America this weekend. Car 79, an LMP2 (LeMans Prototype 2) category is shown during a practice session today. It is driven either by Gary Kraut or Scott Andrews...they alternate. I'm not sure how qualifying is conducted as each driver qualifies separately before the big race. The presumption is that their times are averaged and that sets the grid.

The LMP2 cars were turning laps in the 1:51-1:52 range for the four mile track. Two minutes even would be an average speed of 120mph (193.12kph). Correcting for time difference, a lap of 1:51-2 range is in the neighborhood of 129-130mph (208-209kph) average speed.

That's moving pretty quickly. One has to presume that they are approaching 200mph (322kph) on the straights. You know about how wide a race track is.....if you saw a car coming down the straight about two futbol/rugby pitches away and you thought you could cross the track before it hit you......you'd be wrong.

This car is an Oreca LMP2, running Michelin tires tyres, pushed by a Gibson engine burning E-20C fuel.
