In the fig tree
Jane and Jon - two old friends from Birmingham, not seen for many years - were in Sheffield today and came over for lunch. It was a real pleasure to see them. Although we haven't spoken in years, we quickly slipped into companionable chat. Having reconnected, I hope we'll stay in touch more regularly now.
Among other pleasures, we compared notes on this year's gardening experiences: the successes with soft fruit, our various techniques for deterring squirrels and pigeons. We touched on politics too, both past and present... trying not to get too depressed in the process.
Today's shot is sunlight dancing in the leaves of the fig tree. By this stage in the year, you can already see tiny signs of wear and tear on the large leaves: drying or splitting along their edges, for instance.
I'm hoping that the gusty winds, forecast for Monday, won't do too much more damage.
