All good things...
Our last day today, we fly home tomorrow it's been a great trip.
We swam this morning then packed before heading into Valletta. Our hotel does a free shuttle up the steep hill to the main gate into Valletta - which is an absolute godsend. It also cuts out the flight of 80 steps from the hotel to the road .
We've passed the terrace restaurant in the thumbnail at least once a day for the last 10 days. Today we decided to try to find it. We'd almost given up when I spotted a small door to a flight of steps, sure enough it was the entrance. Part off the restaurant is in the old vaulted tunnel under the Bastion wall, this then opens out to the terrace built into the wall. It was a lovely position to have a coffee and watch the world go by. I also had a delicious plate of home made pate and warm bread. The food here is delicious.
The pineapple is a fountain on the terrace and the two views are one looking towards the Restaurant from the main bridge into Valletta, the other looking towards that bridge from the Terrace.
We had dinner this evening in Aaron's restaurant again and were welcomed back with open arms. The food, service and atmosphere are just lovely. Not formal just delicious food in a nice setting to Michelin standard - and well priced.
We discovered btw that the Festa the town is decorated for is St Dominic and the main celebrations were today.
We went to look at the Anglican cathedral, but it was unfortunately closed. Our Lady of Carmel, almost next door was open but there was a festival mass so we didn't like to go in. (This is the church with the enormous done that you see on the Unesco skyline pictures).
I had never seen a Bolt taxi like the one in the collage, a two wheeler. It was very suitable for the narrow streets but I think, only took one passenger.
The sign on the door, which was opposite St Paul's advertising the undertaker's business made me smile.
The final picture of the Triton Fountain by night is one memory which will start with me long after the holiday.
We're hoping that flying back tomorrow morning, we'll miss the storm, fingers crossed.
