Edinburgh's festivals

The day started well.  I got up (always good), stripped the bed and put on the laundry, had breakfast, changed the bed, hung out washing and then cleaned the cat door.  A job I hate as it requires lying  on the kitchen floor to see tiny screws.  Swept said floor.

As usual WH was up at 5 to work in Malaysia time but had gone back to bed.  Olivia was up reading from before 7.  Amelia was in bed till after 10. #1 son had gone to town to see the bank and do some shopping.

The plan was to be at Waverley for noon to meet WH's sister and girlfriend so we roused WH and dashed for a bus and were in Waverley before noon to meet the 12.13.  It was on time but the arrivees were on the train that KGX at 8 not 7.30 and it was due 12.24 so we moved platforms.  It was 10 mins late.  WH changed the restaurant lunch booking.

The welcome sign was brandished, hugs were given and introductions done and we headed up Jeffrey Street to their hotel in St Mary's St. Except as we got to the Royal Mile turns out it was the Premier Inn Hub so change of direction to Market St.  But wrong Hub so we yomped across (in the heat and I'd stupidly worn my denim jacket) to Rose St and then up the Mound and the steps to Scott's where #1 son was waiting patiently for us.  Phew!

It was hot sitting in the sun but at least Olivia had been persuaded to eschew the puffa jacket.  After lunch it was the Camera Obscura, my first ever visit.  It was really good and the kids loved it.  Such a beautiful day and the views from the terrace were amazing, great binocs too.  We could spy on the tourists.

After that it was down the hill and across to St Andrew Square.  We sat on the grass and the girls had pizza.  The adults were going to a show in the Spiegeltent so I took the girls home via an ice cream in the gardens and a fire juggler show at the Gallery.

I was tired and my leg was aching but got the girls showered and to bed and I had left over snacky stuff and wine and watched the end of Suprenant.  Bit of a let down.  I'll watch another French Canadian one next but I was too tired to went to bed.

Despite the rocky start it was a good day.
