Modern Farming

The crop is in, the hay bales have been collected and now is the time to plough and fertilise the field.

Tractors aren't what they used to be. This modern machine runs on caterpillar tracks and is guided by satellite navigation to ensure the ploughed lines are straight. The field is large, so I imagine the driver will be busy for a couple of days on this. One thing that hasn't changed over the years - the birds enjoying rich pickings from the newly turned soil (hit "L" to see more detail in the larger image).

I'm a great fan of black and white photographs, so chose that for this shot as I wanted to concentrate on the shapes, but my family preferred the original colour version. What do you think?
