Storm Floris

It is a stormy day for sure, but not the worst I’ve known here in the city centre. However at 9:30 I didn’t know how bad it was going to get and so I splashed the cash and got an Uber car to my dentist in the western hinterland of Corstorphine. I followed her from her last practice in Marchmont which became private to this supposedly NHS one only to find that for most of the treatment I need like crowns or teeth cleaning, she prefers the private treatment.

Today was teeth cleaning and I had been warned it would cost £40 but whilst I had my mouth open and unable to talk past her gloved hand she said it would be to my advantage to have the extra water treatment as well which would cost an extra £49. At that point I gave up and gave in- I felt as though I was being an extra in a water boarding episode of the SAS Who Dares Win programme. When I recovered my speech I told her it was an outrageous amount of money and she told me that at my last private practice it would have cost far far more, while I reminded her that that was exactly why I had left it.
As a goodwill gesture she gave me a prescription for 6 tubes of fluoride toothpaste which is definitely better than a slap in the face with a wet fish!
All I can say is, I walked out of the surgery with a far lighter wallet than when I went in and I caught a free bus home with my bus pass.

My blip is of the temporary main building for the Book Festival which begins on the 9th August . The workmen were delivering stacks of chairs, one stack which collapsed dramatically just before I photographed it.
