That Will Do!

Storm Floris

After a morning of watching the trees in the gardens around us bending in the wind, of next-door's leaning branch collapsing against the fence, of watching the rain pour down, of becoming ridiculously excited at a rainbow in the north (when we ought to have been in North Berwick at a show in Fringe By The Sea, with a lunch for seven of us), after lunch we decided to just put on waterproofs and drive to Portobello to watch the waves.

The normally-crowded prom and beach were almost empty, we watched the wind sweep across the beach, swirling sand into spindrifts and across the prom; I put on sunglasses to protect my new lenses from the  abrasion. But it was quite fun, if a little uncomfortable, so we repaired to the Beach House for coffee and bun, watching from the safety of the window. returning to the car along the High Street popped into a couple of charity shops (not all were open) then drove home cross-country, noting how little damage we could see bar a few twigs and leaves blowing about.

However we know that all was not so rosy for everyone, young Flums and their neighbours suffered a long power cut, and we sympathise with anyone who has been badly affected by the storm. It is still blowing a hoolie here but the heart has gone out of it.

Oh, and yesterday's skinny fox came to drink from the pond, so perhaps is not as poorly as I first thought... .
