"Have you got enough pencils?"
I am always asked by Jo. The answer is no, as for some up coming projects I need to order many more coloured pencils. The back row and middle right two are coloured pencils, the remaining six are pastel pencils. They are all different, for example a white polychromos colour pencil is more waxy and leaves a "resist" so whiskers can be embossed into the paper at the start and the colours of the fur won't sit on top of it.
They are also different levels of pigment and hard/softness so some mix better and some sit on top better as layers. Some brands don't have many blues in their sets (Faber-Castell) etc. The ones that do frustrate me are the Stabilo Carbothello pastels (see extra in colour) as they are the only brand that don't have the pencil colour on the top, they are all grey.
What's interested me is how I have learnt how to combine them, how to make chromatic greys, to mute a colour, and know which will add the fine details.
I could go on, but I won't!
