2002: Divers discover U.S.S. Monitor turret
Quote Of The Day
"What the fire of the enemy failed to do, the elements have accomplished."
(From a plaque on the U.S.S. Monitor's turret)
Apparently, the C.S.S. Merrimack, now called the C.S.S. Virginia when the Battle of Hampton Roads was fought in Virginia, is now at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum in Gosport. I guess it isn't on display because I never saw it when I went with my Mum in 2016.
