First dinner with the Foxes
In a bid to beat Storm Floris, the Foxes left Teesside for Edinburgh at 05:20 this morning. They reached us safely at 08:45. After a quick cup of tea, they retreated to bed until lunchtime to catch up on the sleep that they lost overnight.
Meanwhile Mr hazelh completed his usual exercise routine in our home gym (aka the hall), and I continued the committee work that I started at 06:00 to try and finish it before our guests arrived. Then I rode my exercise bike for an hour.
After lunch, Mr Fox showed off his gaming prowess by beating me and Mr hazelh at Catan. Clarissa is not a fan of Catan, so she read her book while we played. Then it was time to complete the prep that we started yesterday for tonight's wee dinner party with Katharine and Jack. Our menu comprised:
First course: smoked salmon pâté and pimento pepper dip with a range of breads and crackers, plus a wee plate of (rather unseasonal) pigs and blankets (mainly) for Mr Fox.
Main course: chicken and cherry salad (blipped, recipe thanks to Ridgeback13), artichoke and couscous salad, new potatoes.
Pudding: chocolate mouse with raspberry coulis.
Katharine and Jack braved the wind to join us for a convivial dinner on the first night of our guests' four-night stay with us.
Exercise today: 1 hour on the exercise bike.
