The Missing Link
We've had an interesting morning visiting the A417 Missing Link site. It wasn't quite what I was expecting. I thought it was only for camera club but as well as our 20 members there were probably another 30 people there for the hour long presentation, asking questions about wildlife, costs and timings, with some anoraky queries about the heavy equipment in use.
The blip is taken from the viewing platform. Only 10 of us were allowed up at a time. I did suggest only one of us from club needed to go, as we were all going to take basically the same photos.
The scheme was number 30 out of 36 submissions and was chosen because of the way it will interact with the Cotswold environment. Near to the top you can see part of the 7.5km of dry stone walling, done by Irish contractors under supervision from Cotswolds experts. It's mainly being constructed 'offline' too, with minimal effect on the current roads. The blip shows the new road which should be ready late 2026.
More here.
It all reminded me a bit of my stint as a tea boy on the M5 construction, one of my summer jobs when I was at university back in the early 1970s.
