On This Day

After Floris

Yesterday was pretty blowy and it's still a gusty wind today. There's a lot of tree debris lying and blowing around and some substantial branches are down. The worst hit I've seen is this lovely maple which has lost at least three big limbs. A branch of the much smaller field maple in the garden was blown off too so maybe they're particularly susceptible. But on the whole we got off lightly for which I'm grateful.

There is a lot of minor clearing up to do in the garden. The runner bean frames are at a jaunty angle and many of the courgette leaves have been shredded. There are so many windfall apples but I think they're just too immature and unripe to do much with. I'll ponder that.

No grandson today because he is on holiday in Poland and having a wonderful time from the looks of the photos. Though it is apparently raining there this afternoon.

I'll be at the community orchard later for a meeting about the planters. I must remember to take water for mine - despite the rain the soil is dry. The wind won't be helping.

I'm making veggie shepherd's pie for tonight. With courgettes and runner beans of course. It feels like an autumn day!
