Another 100 not out
I started the day in bed chatting with #2 son who was in a very long queue for the Doha flight followed by what looked like a 20 minute wait at security but he made it (there quite a few Qatar passengers in the same situation) and the plane took off only 15 minutes late. So that's another one away.
After that we were all up fairly early as the WH was working here, on calls, and I was taking the the girls to the explosive science show in George Square. It was great fun, quite educational and very noisy, and as we were early we were in the front row. Magnus, the performer, must be exhausted at the end of each show but he did say that my two were a great audience. Amelia, as ever, was very enthusiastic.
After, the sun having come out, there was inevitably food. They had very gooey crepes and I had chips (plus leftover crepes, I know). We sat at Potterow for a while finishing our drinks and then meandered down to the National Library.
As trailed on R4 it was celebrating its 100th birthday today. We spent quite a long time in the 'Love Your Library' exhibition while we waited for WH to join us. There was a lot of interactive stuff: listening, drawing, reading and dressing up. I became a Granny. After WH arrived we had a look at the treasures exhibition, which wasn't as interesting for the girls and busier and the shop, and we got the free anniversary copy of the Beano (but no stickers!).
The rest of the afternoon was retail therapy. Down to Princes Street with a top to see the floral clock cuckoo at 2 p.m, Primark for 'Hello Kitty' stuff and coffee and food (no food for me) in the Lilo and Stitch (formerly Hello Kitty) Cafe, then Mini Sou for more Kuromi stuff (all that expensive branded commercialism, then Boots, Lush, back to Boots and finally a bus home. It took nearly an hour.
I used the time on the bus to consult with #3 son about a venue for the family dinner on Saturday, he having turned his nose up at my suggestions. Turned out, understandably, almost impossible to get somewhere for 8 at a decent time on Saturday so it's going to be Sunday. The Ivy is booked.
All afternoon there was a lot of coming and going with #1 son about his plans. He got soaked last night and eventually decided he'd give up at Kinlochleven and get the bus home from Glencoe. I had time for pesto pasta with salmon and a cornetto before heading back into town to pick him up at the Dome. It took me about 20 mins to get from the Lawnmarket to the foot of the Mound, stationary traffic, but turned out the timing was great as the bus had just arrived and I was able to stop right behind. The journey home was much quicker. He looked exhausted.
The girls and WH had been having face packs with the free Lush samples so it was ages before the went off to bed. I managed to wash some real tv, before leaving #1 son with the pasta and left over prawns.
Another really busy day.
