High Wire Act
FRIDAY
Yesterday, every household in the village received a hand-delivered letter warning of a “short notice interruption” to our electricity supply — from 09:00 to 16:00 today.
As a result, our cars stayed out on the driveway overnight as the garage door is such a nuisance to open manually.
We were up early, showers taken well before the 9am. cut-off. I was halfway through making my second coffee of the day when — right on the dot — the coffee machine stopped mid-cup.
Being nosey, I wandered around the village. It was eerily quiet, partly because one of the main access lanes on the outskirts was closed to allow the work on the overhead cables. I snapped a photo of the power crew at work (- see extra too).
The rest of the morning was spent out in the sunshine in the garden.
Just before noon, the power was restored.
This afternoon brought yet another bowls match, this time against Eirias Park in what is usually the Tuesday afternoon Senior Citizens League.
Under John’s vice-captaincy, we romped to victory with seven wins out of ten, plus two points for the aggregate. My own game ended in 21–12 win, which nudged me back to the top spot out of 209 in the individual division averages.
In the league table, the Senior Citizens team standings of the three top teams in the division are currently:
Abergele 146
Rhuddlan 140 (my team)
Rhyl 137
With six matches left everything is still up for grabs but there is no room for complacency.
