What’s in a poppy head?

No opium that I could find:) I collected lots of seeds from just one head. Going to try to grow one or two more. And maybe throw some seeds onto bits of waste ground. These are the huge deep red poppies, maybe 8 inches in diameter.
I thought the pods are very interesting - from the left - little vertical compartments to hold the seeds separately. I suppose so that if one side is damaged they don’t all fall out at once? In the middle is one with it’s very hard covering to protect it - I don’t think many birds would find it easy to peck through that. And on the right, you can see the beautiful U shaped openings for the seeds to fall out of gradually. This is after I’ve prised off the hard cap. The head would need to tip a little in the wind, or be moved by an animal, for any to fall out. I think it looks a bit like a carved gallery around an old hall. Beautiful, graceful curves.
