If the far right come to Bristol

Especially if they come to cause fear and destruction at a hotel housing asylum seekers, you have to turn up and stand in their way. Fortunately hundreds of others went down to stand around the door of the Mercure hotel with banners saying refugees are welcome. A lovely peaceful mixed group all ages, lifestyles, communities. Lots of people as old as me. Eventually a smattering of people waving union flags marched down from Temple Meads station - they mostly don’t come from Bristol - and stood about 50 yards away. A line of police facing them, another facing us.  The police men and women looked bored but didn’t need to do anything but stand there. We chanted non stop until the far right people went away again. About 90 minutes of such as
“say it loud, say it clear, refugees are welcome here”
“Bristol is anti-fascist”
“We are many, you are few, we are Bristol, who are you”
and perhaps the most telling -  “unemployment and inflation are not caused by immigration “
I have to say it was good to be in that united crowd chanting over and over.
Hopefully they’ll stop coming to Bristol as it doesn’t go well for them.  I did have other things to do with my Saturday but I couldn’t not go.
Sadly they are having more success in spreading hate and terror in other cities.
PS just adding, as it looks ambiguous I realise - the man in the middle right image is leading a chant. (People took turns)
