Resting Place

This huge log has been in the meadow for several weeks. Today someone started the skilled job of turning it into a bench that will commemorate the life of a local person who was instrumental in establishing the community orchard (along with many other local initiatives). I’m not sure what the wood is but I believe it came from a fallen tree in a local woodland at Stansted. Accompanying the bench is a commemorative walnut tree, planted earlier this summer.

It’s been a warm sunny day. I’ve gathered the necessary ingredients for more jam making and shallot pickling. It was a bit hot for Merlin in the field this afternoon so we played a game of hunt the piece of carrot in the grass, then sat in the shade with a drink of water.
