I am always happy and relieved to see that the hay has been made. In parts of Scotland, Ireland and Wales it’s hard to get enough fine days in a row, though that may be changing of course….

Steve and I went down to the river Severn near Epney and Longney. We had drinks at the Anchor pub by the river, and when went along to a bird watching spot that Steve loves. He chatted to a resident while I read.

I’ve done a lot of reading and sleeping today. I had to come inside when we got back from the river trip. It was just too hot. I’m reading a curious book, Brendon Chase, by the author BB, about 3 boys who run away from their aunts house and live in the wild. There’s too much hunting’, shooting’, fishing’ and robbin’ birds’ nests for me, but they were hardly going to be livin’ on Instant whip! The date of publication is 1944, but I think it dates from an altogether earlier era.
