Skimming

This area of the world is a complete unknown to my guests so today, at my sister’s request, we had a tour of some of the local nature reserves - first of all the main RSPB reserve at Leighton Moss, then the nearby salt marsh, and finally the Cumbria Wildlife Trust’s Foulshaw Moss.

I had warned that this was a very quiet time of year for birds, but in fact we saw plenty. It was a good day. Young A had his grandad’s camera, he enjoys playing around with it and has a good eye.

We rounded the day off with cups of tea at Holly and then went to Arnside where R and A are staying (the Fighting Cocks)for a meal out at JJ Crossfield. The choice was pizza, pizza or pizza, so we all had pizza.

There was a fantastic sunset beyond the Kent Estuary, so I left our table at various times to take photos. A meanwhile was enjoying skimming stones over the water - it’s what 14 year old boys do - and his grandad sat down to take a few pics. That’s my main image. In extras a great diving beetle (on the footpath, out of its watery domain), a heron, the obligatory Osprey on a dead tree, and a sunset.
