Life is a Challenge!

WIDE WEDNESDAY - A LOCAL SCENE!

I woke up this morning with a very bad headache and thought it would last all day, but thankfully, once I got up and got going, it soon went - not that they always do - but I was very thankful that it wasn’t as bad as the one on Monday, which lasted for most of the day.

Mr. HCB suggested we go out for coffee, so we did;  when he said he had just seen a lady wearing a purple dress and a red hat and I thought he was feeling a bit faint himself!  However, before long a host of lovely ladies wearing purple dresses or tops and red hats appeared, so of course, I asked if I could take their photograph for my Blip, having explained what that was and they agreed.

I asked the lady second on the left what they were all about and she said that they were a group of “more mature” ladies, who had formed into a group known as “The Scarlet Lardydas” - who meet up once a month and enjoy life, especially meeting together.

So, as the café is not far from where we live, this is perfect for Wide Wednesday and is definitely “A Local Scene”.  I asked the significance of those wearing a purple, rather than a red hat and red dress and that was because this month is their birthday and the colours are then swapped around.

I told them that I remembered when we visited friends in America that the Red Hat Society was very popular over there, and of course, many of you will know the poem entitled "Warning" by Jenny Joseph - and I remember sending out invitations to my 60th Birthday using this very poem - and a photograph of me wearing a red hat - see extra!

When we got back, I spent sometime with Gill, John’s wife - because I knew she would be on her own for part of the day and I wanted to know that she was OK after yesterday.  She is doing so well;  we chatted about the day and she said she was pleased it was over, but it was just as John would have wanted it - under-stated, but full of fun and remembering.  She doesn’t live far from us, so I will be popping in from time to time, and no doubt we will go out for coffee - but I’m not sure I will be able to persuade her to wear a red hat!

I have definitely done many of the things spoken of in the poem - as many of you know, purple is my favourite colour;  I have disposed of my red hat but still have the scarf!  I haven’t spent my pension on brandy, but I have pressed alarm bells, well a counter bell - mostly in DEBRA, our favourite charity shop and been out in my slippers in the rain, but I definitely don’t swear and promise I haven’t yet learned to spit!  However, I very much enjoy life with Mr. HCB and am grateful to these lovely “Scarlet Lardydas” for my Wide Wednesday Blip!
