Life is a Challenge!

COMMUNITY FRIDGE DAY AGAIN!

“Twas a busy shift at the Community Fridge today but we all just got on with it and there was a great feeling of camaraderie there.  We know many of our customers by name, and during the school holidays, it’s great because mothers bring their children and grandparents being their grandchildren - so we get to know whole families.

Today we had lots of lovely things - just look at the flowers in the middle of my collage - some of these were priced at £20 and so many took them home with a smile on their faces.

We even have some great labels now for the dog and cat food - and often we don’t appreciate how special their cats and dogs are to some of our customers,  many of whom live on their own.

We also had a coleslaw mountain - and believe me, we were trying to give away lots of packs of it - in fact, at one point, we told people they couldn’t leave unless their took another two packs of coleslaw!

For our meal this evening we have baked potatoes, coleslaw and salad, so that saves me having to stand over a hot stove and cook - but the way I am feeling at the moment, I don't think I could do that anyway!

Thanks must go to all the volunteers helping this morning in such hot temperatures - and to Heather, our Head Honcho, who keeps us on track.  There is always a good atmosphere and we had a good number in the café this morning too so there was lots of chat in there.

I’m hoping that this weather breaks soon - because it is hard to sleep when it is so hot, but we are very grateful that we don’t have to contend with the awful fires that are ravaging parts of Spain, Portugal, Turkey, and Greece.   Hope you all have a great weekend.  M xx
