Fearless, but Not Rustless
Actually managed to get a Blip in Évora, as we walked inside the walls and up to the main square for our breakfast, in one of the oldest still functioning cafés in Portugal, Café Arcada.
The square (which is rectangular) is named after the Portuguese knight who took the city off the Moors in the 1100's, known as Geraldo Sem Pavor (Without Fear). He was a sort of El Cid character, had his own army and took a lot of towns in this area, including some in Spain. His technique was to choose a night with bad weather, then scale the walls with long ladders he'd built, kill the guards and open the gates to his army. If you look closely at the city´s coat of arms, you'll see the decapitated heads of the gatekeeper and his daughter on the ground.
He got his comeuppance when the Moors beheaded him in Africa many years later.
Temporary extra of the larger lampstand, seen from the other side.
Gratefuls:
- surviving this prolonged heatwave, over 40C again today
- sweet grapes from our vines
- telephone conversations (I´ve come off the MC leadership, but still doing MC for colleagues)
